Introducing seasonal events using Mino Washi at Gifu Prefecture!
Spring
Hina doll of Udatsu Machiya
‣ Date: Early February-April 3
‣ Place: Udatsu no Agaru Machinami
‣Introduction: Traditional hina dolls and hina dolls made of Mino Washi are displayed in the old house to celebrate the Doll's Festival. You can enjoy seeing various dolls on the shop or house and walking around the town wearing a kimono.
Mino Festival / Flower Mikoshi
‣ Place: Hachiman Shrine, Udatsu no Agaru Machinami
‣ Date: the Second Saturday and Sunday of April (You can see Hana Mikoshi on Saturday )
‣Introduction: This traditional festival has continued since the Edo period to cerebrate the huge harvest of the five grains. You can see that men wearing happi coats carry about 30 large and small flower mikoshi decorated with bright pink Mino while shouting "Oisa Oisa". It looks like a weeping cherry tree in full bloom. It's worth seeing.
Summer
Mino machiya corridor ~Suzu no ne no Sansaku
‣ Place: Udatsu no Agaru Machinami
‣ Date: July 7th-August 31st
‣Introduction: You can enjoy about 100 Mino Fukin using Mino handmade Washi as strips. You should be healed by the cool tone played by wind chimes named Mino Fukin.
Autumn
Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibition
* In the 2nd year of the Reiwa period, due to the influence of the Coronavirus, the event will not be held in Udatsu no Agaru Machinami. It will be held in 3 locations in the city. In addition, you can also see works on the Web.
‣ Place: Udatsu no Agaru Machinami
‣ Date: Saturday and Sunday of 3 day weekend including National Sports Day (Depends on the Olympics)
‣Introduction: You can see 400 Akari art works made of handmade Mino Washi by the public every year. Handmade Mino Washi has a history of 1300 years. Mino Washi Akari art works give the warmth of lights to the town, Udatsu no Agaru Machinami selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. So you can experience the fantastic world of lights .
・ The higher-ranking works will be exhibited at the Mino Washi Akari Art Museum, and you can always feel the warm light created by Mino Washi.
Winter
Washi Christmas tree exhibition
‣ Place: Pocket Park in front of Mino City Tourist Information Center
‣ Date: December 1st-December 25th
‣Introduction: This Christmas tree made of Mino -Washi is 4 meters high. Because of water resistant, you can see Christmas tree even if it rains . The successive excellent works are also exhibited around the tree. Japanese paper increases the warmth of light even in the cold winter, and you can enjoy a fantastic Christmas mood.
