Obara Washi (Aichi)
It is said that the make of Japanese paper has started based on the monk Hakutei’s teaching in the Obara area (formerly Obara Village) of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, in Muromachi Period.

The Japanese paper for art and craft product that is made by drawing pictures with colored raw fibers when making Japanese paper. Washi itself is a work of art.
This type of Japanese paper can only be found in Obara area.
In 1932, the craftsman, Tatsukichi Fujii noticed the quality of Obara Washi.
He taught how to color the paper using plants,trees and soil to the people in Obara, and the artistic Japanese paper has made.
Currently more than 20 people are working as Obara craft artists.
