The 2nd Fieldwork's Report

On Sunday, November 23, 2020, We visited the destination included in the first day of the tour plan to conduct a field survey. The person in charge were Tsuchihashi and Okado, who belong to the "Aichi Student Tourism Town Development Award" group of ALEQ. We will report on the survey results of the five destinations we visited, "Nakano Hanroku Residence", "MIZKAN MUSEUM", "Pottery Promenade", "TOKONAME STORE", and "YOMOGI GUESTHOUSE". At the end of this article, there are also photos taken during the field survey.

Nakano Hanroku Residence

The Nakano Hanroku Residence was not allowed inside the building due to the effects of the new coronavirus infection. We put it in the site of the mansion. The entrance wasn't very noticeable, so we were likely to pass by when we were absent. It is a cozy space with a garden where you can relax. Especially on sunny days when the weather is nice, we think you can relax.

MIZKAN MUSEUM

MIZKAN MUSEUM was also not allowed in the museum due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection. This museum is very close to the Nakano Hanroku Residence. You can walk from the Nakano Hanroku Residence. A river runs right next to MIZKAN MUSEUM, which is a photo spot. From the other side of the river, it is recommended to frame the MIZKAN MUSEUM building over the river.

Pottery promenade

It is highly recommended that you have a map when you go around the pottery promenade. We missed the map and handed it over from one of the same sightseeing groups on the way ... The map is at Tokoname Station on the Meitetsu Tokoname Line / Airport Line. It can be obtained from the website of the Tourism Association. A link to the Tokoname Tourism Association website is posted at the end of this article.

The pottery promenade is in a residential area. There are many steep slopes, so it's a good idea to wear comfortable shoes such as sneakers.

There are many detour spots such as cafes, pottery galleries, and soba restaurants. We stayed for about an hour, but if there were many places we wanted to detour, we thought we could stay longer. If you deviate from the route shown on the map, you may find something interesting.

TOKONAME STORE

At TOKONAME STORE, we had a pottery experience of Tokoname ware. A reservation is required for the pottery experience. The inside of the experience booth was very beautiful with the atmosphere of a workshop.

The experience begins with the workshop explaining the pottery procedure from start to finish. Next, select the type of pottery you want to make. Then, the kneaded plate-shaped soil is placed on the mold and molded. In addition, remove the molded soil from the mold and trim the edges with your fingers. Finally, attach your favorite pattern with a stamp etc. and it is completed. During the work, a person of the workshop will be in support at any time. Depending on the finish of the work, you can get rework and advice.

It takes less than two months to bake. You can choose to receive the baked work at TOKONAME STORE or deliver it to your home. In the case of delivery, shipping fee will be charged in addition to the experience fee. During the pottery experience, it is recommended to wear clothes that will prevent the sleeves from falling off.

YOMOGI GUESTHOUSE

YOMOGI GUESTHOUSE is a little off the route of the pottery promenade that we have already introduced. It suddenly appears in a line of houses. We asked the owner to guide us through the building. It is said that the old folk house, which used to be a pottery gallery and residence, was remodeled into a guest house. Since it is a guest house, it seems that it is a characteristic to interact with people who stay at the same place on the day. The toilet and the shower room was clean. There is no bath. Since there is a shared kitchen, everyone can enjoy cooking using the ingredients bought at the nearby supermarket and the ingredients brought in.

Summary

It wasn't until we went on a field survey that we knew what was good to take on a tour. For example, easy-to-walk shoes, maps of pottery walkways, and clothes that don't fall off your sleeves. I don't think this was obvious just by looking at websites and travel magazines. We also enjoyed the survey. I am excitedly waiting for the pottery made in TOKONAME STORE to arrive.
